See this photo of me? That’s me in my tough-guy, punk, combat outfit. See that mean look on my face? That’s the look just before a fight.
I was on my way home after a very satisfying morning walk to the bakery to pick up fresh rolls for breakfast with Mama when a lady with a big, black mutt called from across the street, looking at me and asked ” Does he bite?”. Mama moved her head side to side, shrugging her shoulders, indicating uncertainty but a with a possibility that I might react.
The mutt was free-roaming without a leash. I didnt like his look. He was big and ugly and staring at me as if he thought I would be easy meat.
I growled. He growled and then (the very nerve of it all) he charged at me. I responded and charged at him. The battle has begun. Mama shrieked in shock. The other lady yelled at the mutt. He came for me. I went for him. This was going to be fun!
Today’s incident wasn’t the first. A few weeks ago, my neighbor’s 4-pawed kid Max (an old West-Highland Terrier with a silly cone-shaped tail, slightly bigger than me) charged at me as I was leaving my front door and he was passing by. Max never liked me since I moved in. He was kinda the pack-chief in this building for the past 8 years. Then I moved in. It’s been bad-blood between us since the very beginning. I am apparently the new favorite among the Humans here. Some of them even complained about Max being a real grumpy chap and were glad that a fresh-faced cutie like me came along — all friendly and chirpy instead of old and sulky.
Anyway, Max left little to chance. Before I could even respond, he had sunk his teeth in my neck! Did I die Mama? For a moment I wasnt quite sure. Then I felt a hard pull as Max’s Papa dragged him away scolding him as he slided down the stairs, mouth full of my hair!
Hahahahahahaha!!!! Max forgot I had thick fur left over from winter and all he got was my hair :-). What an idiot.
I can relate several other incidents when I went into near-combat with other dogs. Most times though, I enjoy confrontations with the bigger guys. Makes me feel powerful because, size, to me, doesn’t matter. It’s the challenge that counts.
