A while back we talked about something called Black Dog Syndrome and the sad reality that black dogs are often left behind, not selected, not the preferred colour of dog to adopt. For our feature today, we are learning about a precious black dog named Lucy. What stood out to us, right from the very beginning when we were getting to know Lucy was the fact that Lucy wasn’t adopted by chance. She didn’t just find her way to her family by happenstance, it wasn’t as a result of events or coincidences, and she wasn’t simply a black dog that had been passed over.
Instead, Lucy was what every dog dreams to be. Lucy was chosen. Her humans went out of their way to select her, black furriness and all. By that act alone they quite unknowingly took a positive step towards dispelling those myths about black dogs, and they haven’t regretted their choice for a moment…well at least not until the upchuck incident with the tinfoil this week. But let’s not dwell on that.
Mama visited the breeder and met my doggie Mama, as well as my doggie Grandma (who looked pretty darn good for her age). The kids in the family had been wanting a dog for a long time, and so when it was determined that they were old enough to be responsible and mature enough to care for and appreciate having a pet, Mama began looking for me. The cool part is that she kept it a secret until the day I came home, and when the kids came home from school and met me for the first time, they all cried because they were so happy. (my humans cried when I came home too, but I suspect it was because of the bites I gave them)
