Have you ever experienced an explosion of glee and pride in your Humans’ faces when you respond to their commands (and comments) in their language?
Have you been amply rewarded each time you go fetch a stick or ball at their beckon (silly as it may seem)?
If you answered “Yes” to the above, you have got the basics right.
Did you know understanding the basics of human language can enhance your quality of life? My personal experience says it is proven. Humans love to be the boss and to be in command. They believe they are superior to all us ‘other creatures’ because they can communicate through a medium called language. So, if you, the ‘other creatures’ can respond to them, it makes them feel good about themselves and you benefit.
Here are a couple of human words that a dog should recognise and respond to. The rewards (or punishments) can be quite something!
How to react to words’ Good Boy(girl)’ and get rewards
Jump around, put on a silly smile, appear ridiculously grateful and lick your human’s hands. It is almost guaranteed that you will receive hugs, rubs and smiles (as well as yummy treats!)
How to react to ‘Bad Boy(girl)’ and avoid punishment
Droop your head, look sad, drop and position tail between back legs, slowly drop to the floor and place your head on your two front paws, remain completely silent and appear downthrodden. Chances are you will be spared further actions.
Listen and remember these human words -
Come Here , Stay, Sit, Fetch, Stop, No
If you obey, your Reward – Smiles, pats, treats
If you disobey, your Punishment – Repeated drills and mental torture until you obey!
